University of Miami Hurricanes Select Cory M. Lessner, M.D. as the Team's Laser Vision Correction Specialist
SUNRISE, Fla. -- The University of Miami Hurricanes have selected Cory M. Lessner, M.D. as their sports teams' Laser Vision Correction Specialist. Dr. Lessner is the Medical Director of Millennium Laser Eye Centers (www.mleye.com), headquartered in Sunrise.
Dr. Lessner, whose practice is dedicated exclusively to laser vision correction, is no stranger to the world of sports. He is the official LASIK team doctor for all 4 South Florida professional sports teams, the Miami Heat, Miami Dolphins, Florida Panthers, and Florida Marlins.
"Athletes rely on exceptional eyesight and we are honored that the University of Miami Hurricanes have recognized Millennium Laser Eye Centers in this way," said Dr. Lessner.
Dr. Lessner has performed laser vision correction on many star athletes including former Panthers' goalie Roberto Loungo, former Marlins' star Jeff Conine, as well as former Hurricanes head coach and current television sports analyst Jimmy Johnson. "These highly-skilled professionals depend on excellent vision," says Dr. Lessner. "The fact that so many athletes depend on exceptional eyesight shows the great confidence they have in the LASIK procedure."
Dr. Lessner is one of the few surgeons in the country whose practice is limited to advanced vision correction. He has performed more than 15,000 laser correction procedures and has been recognized as being in the top 5% of all refractive surgeons nationwide.
Millennium was the first laser center in Florida, and one of approximately 100 centers in the country, to offer treatment on the Allegretto Wavelight "perfect pulse" technology to its patients. The Allegretto Wavelight is the latest FDA approved laser for vision correction. It is the fastest laser vision system in the U.S., resulting in more predictably accurate results. Additionally, Millennium Laser Eye Centers is proud to announce the arrival of the newly FDA approved ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Excimer Laser System for the treatment of mixed astigmatism. Now patients with near or farsightedness plus astigmatism can receive laser vision correction with a more predictable outcome. Because of the intense speed and precision of the ALLEGRETTO WAVE®, certain astigmatisms which could not be treated in the past, can now be treated.
Dr. Lessner is also one of the first doctors in South Florida to offer IntraLase blade-free laser technology for performing the initial step of the LASIK procedure -- creating the corneal flap. Traditionally, this first step was done manually using a hand-held device called a microkeratome. IntraLase makes every LASIK procedure uniquely safer and more precise for predictably better vision by virtually eliminating blade-related LASIK complications.
IntraLase now has a 60,000 pulse per second upgrade, which translates into a quicker, safer, and more comfortable procedure for the patient. The improvements also mean fewer complications, such as corneal irregularities and scarring.
The combination of the Allegretto WaveLight Excimer Laser and IntraLase enable more patients who were previously not candidates to have the procedure. The technology is so advanced that 50% of Dr. Lessner's patients undergoing procedures with the newest equipment say they are seeing better than they ever did with contact lenses or glasses.
